2019. Broadford Paper Mill & historical video
The Broadford and District Historical Society, dedicated 2019 The Australia Day display to the Broadford Mill, with member and former employee Graham Neill being the driving force.
Australian Paper Manufacturers, Broadford Mill, was an icon of the town for many many years, until eventual closure. It started production on the east bank of the Sunday Creek, October 27, 1890. Surviving many setbacks including, Wars, fires, water and raw material shortages, The Mill, kept Broadford alive.
The display featured many photos, clothing, tools and events from over the years. Many former employees and families returned for the event and to renew acquaintances.
The day also featured a DVD showing the last straw board run through the mill, a sad occasion for many.
Graham also produced a DVD, “A History of the Broadford Paper Mill” especially for the day. This DVD was entered and was shortlisted in The Victorian Community History Awards and received a high recommendation.
